Dear brothers and sisters, our heavenly Father was correct when he stated that it was not good for us to be alone. I have tried to walk in this life alone, and I have to say it is unfulfilling, and the isolation can be draining. It is important to have close friends so that we can speak honestly and fully on matters that are laid on our hearts.
Proverbs 27:17 states that “as iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” This is an important thing to remember. If you have been friends with a person for a while, you may notice that you pick up mannerisms that are similar to that person’s. Part of them imprints on you and a part of you imprints on them. Proverbs 13:20 tells us that if we walk with the wise, we can become wise, but if we walk with the foolish, we will end up more foolish. A good person can be corrupted by bad friends.
Choosing a wise friend is a blessing. A good friend encourages you and challenges you with honesty and love. Within a healthy friendship, you should also encourage and challenge your friend with love and honesty. In this way you are working to refine one another into better people. Good friends will stick by one another through good and bad times. It is my prayer that we may find good friends and that we may become good friends to those in our lives.
